New Lootboxes: Ubisoft
Ubisoft's NFT offensive is criticized by Gamer loudly. The Publisher CEO has now defended the new microtransakers in a meeting and announced other NFT plans. His reasoning, however, testifies to a fundamental misunderstanding.
For the NFTs in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint has composed Ubisoft overwhelming negative feedback from the community. The implementation of the limited digital content ensured skepticism even in the developers themselves. Now Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot has defended the NFTs in a meeting and pulled an ominous comparison.
Ubisoft Quartz: CEO defends NFTs
In the meeting with developers Guillemot kept the position that the NFTs in Ghost Recon Breakpoint were only the beginning of a larger campaign. He thought about further steps in terms of details, but explained that would have expected the negative reactions to Ubisoft Quartz. Nevertheless, the developer team expressed concerns about increasing the volume of work to implement NFTs and public opinion on microtransactions in Publisher's games.
Guillemot, however, compared them with the original feedback of the community to Loot boxen and LCS. He probably suggested that NFTs as well as their microtranstransperson after the initial protest would simply establish in the industry. (Source: Kodak)
NFTs at Ubisoft: Comparison leaves bad guys (comment)
The problem with the comparison between the NFTs in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and the advent of Loot boxen is that it is 100 percent correct — yet the teaching that is drawn from it could not be wrong. Nobody denies that NFTs could become the next stage of the evolution of microtransactions, but for this reason, the reactions are so negative.
Microtransactions in general and Loot boxes in particular are mechanics that ruin the game fun and in the worst case can destroy life of susceptible players. They alone serve the profit maximization of publishers and have no positive impact on the games in which they are found.
With this comparison, Guillemot has not helped that the NFT offensive is seen from Ubisoft from another perspective. Instead, simply confirmed that the limited digital content is nothing more than new sources of money for publisher. The fact that the Ubisoft CEO can not see anything about it is also no surprise — but it is anything but reassuring and indicates a gloomy future for developers and gamers alike.
In our video we give a brief review of the biggest exciters in the history of microtransactions:
The protest against Ubisoft's NFT offensive continues in the community. However, UBISOFT CEO YVES GUILLEMOT considers the reactions to be expected and has made a comparison in a meeting, the gamer is unlikely to calm down.
